Haldor Volcano
Parting
Translated from the Russian by Alec Vagapov
You sadly smile hiding your bitter tears,
The window of the car is like a veil.
The train has started scaring me: is this
The last time that we see each other, girl?
The leaves, like singing birds of paradise,
Flew following the train and both of us.
It seemed that, stumbling, I would fall and rise
As I was running through the storm and gust.
The snake of train was getting out of sight
And slowly disappeared fading out.
I stood there on the platform. And I might
As well hoot like a train or just about!
