Haldor Volcano
The Winter Morning
(Translated by Alec Vagapov)
The forests are covered with snow
A hare runs through the frost.
Drifting traces on snowy footpaths,
The storm is buzzing like wasp.
The Snow Queen rambled around,
A crown of ice she wore.
Keeping its mouth wide open,
The white crow started to caw.
The draught inserts in the window
The cotton of glass and ice.
The white trees are getting married,
Putting on their veils of brides.
The chimney.is a heavy smoker,
Street-cleaner is a clever chief
The birch-tree has adopted Islam,
Putting put on a snow-white kerchief.
