On March 10, 1948 Masaryk was found dead, dressed in his pajamas, in the courtyard of the Foreign Ministry below his bathroom window. The initial 'investigation' stated that he had committed suicide by jumping out of the window, although it is for a long time it has been believed by some that he may have been murdered by the nascent Communist government. The 'conclusion' of death by suicide was reaffirmed by a second investigation taken in 1968 during the Prague Spring and a third one in the early 1990s after the Velvet Revolution. Despite of the outcomes of all three investigations, discussions about the mysterious circumstances of his death are still continuing, without apparent consensus. Those who believe that Masaryk was murdered have called it the Third Defenestration of Prague. Members of Masaryk's family-including his former wife, (Frances Crane Leatherbee), a former in-law named Sylvia E. Crane, and his sister Alice Masaryk -stated their belief that he had indeed killed himself, according to a letter written by Sylvia E. Crane to The New York Times, and considered the possibility of murder a "cold war cliché" (The New York Times, 28 January 1990). However, a Prague police report in 2004 claims that he was indeed murdered.
The highest-ranking Soviet Bloc intelligence defector, Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa, described his conversation with Nicolae Ceauşescu, who told him about "ten international leaders the Kremlin killed or tried to kill". Jan Masaryk was one of them. Jan Garrigue Masaryk (September 14, 1886 - March 10, 1948) was a Czechoslovak diplomat and politician and Foreign Minister of Czechoslovakia from 1940 to 1948. Born in Prague, he was a son of professor and politician Tomáš Masaryk who became the first President of Czechoslovakia (1918), and his American wife, Charlotte Garrigue.

Kruchina committed suicide in the early morning of August 26, five days after the coup attempt, by jumping out of his luxury apartment window in Moscow, having left two suicide notes, where he claimed that he was not a plotter, despite having never been publicly linked to the attempted coup.[2][3] This wasn't the only suicide among the Soviet leadership those days; Soviet Interior Minister Boris Pugo, one of the plotters, allegedly shot his wife and himself in their apartment on August 22, while Marshal Sergei Akhromeyev, Adviser to the President of the USSR on military affairs, hanged himself in his office on August 24. Kruchina's predecessor, Georgy Pavlov, also committed suicide the same way as Kruchina on October 6. On October 17 Dmitry Lisovolik, former deputy chief of the party's international department, followed his way several weeks after investigators found $600,000 in the office of his boss, Valentin Falin. Nikolay Yefimovich Kruchina (Russian: Николай Ефимович Кручина; May 14, 1928, Siberian Krai (now Altai Krai) - August 26, 1991, Moscow), was a top Soviet communist official, the administrator of affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) since 1983 and until his death, effectively the party's chief treasurer who was responsible for its enormous assets (popularly dubbed as the party's gold, Russian: золото Партии), estimated to be worth nearly $9 billion, which have never been located thereafter.

A 44-year-old Austrian woman who worked at the UN Secretariat Building plunged to her death from the 19th floor yesterday in an apparent suicide, police said.
There were no signs of foul play, but an investigation was ongoing, said NYPD Detective Martin Speechley.
The woman, who is a staff member at the United Nations, had shown up for work earlier in the day. Police, UN security officers and staff rushed to the scene at the 39-story building at 405 East 42nd St. at around 8 a.m.
The NYPD and a UN representative would not say what she did at the United Nations, though they confirmed she was on its staff. It was believed to be the second suicide leap from the building.
