A car-airplane, a car-helicopter, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft , a flying car AirCar. A note.
Many companies are developing aircraft that could not only to fly, but also to move - like ordinary cars.
The main task of such hybrid aircraft is to solve the problem of urban mobility.
In the variant of a flying car, the solution to the problem of urban mobility is not carried out through the use of modified airplane - modified to such an extent that the airplane is able to use the roofs of skyscrapers for take-off and landing. The designers go further - they are trying to create a hybrid device - a flying car, a car-airplane.
On this trajectory of technology development, such a concept as "a vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft " appeared.
This concept - "eVTOL" - puts a vertical take-off and landing airplane next (in concept) to a flying car.
eVTOL is (in the most commonly accepted sense) an airplane, not a helicopter.
If we understand eVTOL as an airplane, then it is clear that eVTOL differs from a car-airplane and from a car-helicopter. eVTOL should have the ability to take off and land vertically, but eVTOL does not necessarily have the qualities of a car.
So, we can see the line of concepts "flying car" ("car-airplane", "car-helicopter"), eVTOL. Nearby these the notions are the models of "planes" and "helicopters" for urban use.
Vertical lifting spinning rotors (screws, vertical propellers) are typical for various aircraft. The most common models using lifting spinning rotors are helicopters.
However, in the line of lifting spinning rotors (lifting screws) (vertical propellers), there are a screws placed in a kind of air tubes - they can be called "channel fans (propellers)" ("ducted fans" for vertical lift). Devices with "channel fans (propellers)" can be conditionally attributed to helicopters. At the same time, we can also recall the sledges - sledges that were driven by a air propeller. Maybe the concept of "vertical" [device] (sledges, car, airplane ...) may also be useful to refer to flying devices with "duct fans (propellers)" ("ducted fans" for vertical lift). Even a helicopter can become "vertical". A helicopter - he is and so vertical (by main design), but if a helicopter is equipped with a "channel fan (propeller)" in addition to the usual horizontally spinning rotors (screws), then such a model may require a separate concept for designation.
All models of "flying cars" ("car-airplanes", "car-helicopters"), eVTOL, are distinguished by problems of technical and economic efficiency. ("The question remains, how many people will be willing to pay money for a flying car that needs access to the runway to take off...").
Car-airplanes face the problem of wings - how to navigate highways with wings that create interference for road users? Folding wings? - These are new problems.
One of the variants of the car-airplane is the AirCar (V5) of the Slovak aviation company Klein Vision. This model can fly at speeds of more than 100 mph (160 kilometers per hour) and climb to an altitude of up to 8000 feet (2500 meters). The Slovak Transport Authority officially allowed him to fly.
For the take-off of this model, a strip of 300 meters long is required.
The real prototype of the Klein Vision is equipped with a BMW internal combustion engine, a propeller and runs on conventional fuel.
Judging by the descriptions, the technical characteristics provide satisfactory flight qualities.
But how to move on public roads with wings?
The possibility of "transformation" is mentioned, "the wing and tail deployment/retraction mechanism", which turns a car into an airplane. We have not found detailed information.
""With AirCar you will arrive at your destination without the hassle of getting a ride to airport and passing through commercial security, you can drive your AirCar to the golf course, the office, the mall or your hotel and park it in a normal parking space," said Anton Zajac, Klein Vision's co-founder, investor and pilot." On the Internet we can find such information:
"Anton studied Mathematics and Physics at Comenius University in Bratislava, and received his doctorate in Quantum Theory.
He worked in the field of theoretical physics for more than 10 years and in 2000 he received the Werner von Siemens Scientific Achievement Award. Anton is fluent in five languages and teaches at prestigious universities around the world.
In 1999 he founded ESET LLC in San Diego and nowadays is the CEO of ESET North America. ESET LLC was recognised with various awards, including "the fastest growing company" in San Diego County in 2007, San Diego "Best Software Company" High Tech Award. ESET's products are available in more that 180 countries around the world and are used by 100 million users." (https://sapie.sk/generalmembers1/eset)
"According to the latest published data, the sales volume of the Eset software company exceeds four hundred million euros."
"One of the richest Slovaks, co-owners of Eset Anton Zajac, is considering it [the Austrian village of Wolfstal] as a perfect housing estate. Outside of Wolfsthal he built an extremely modern and large swimming pool with a living area. ". The solution to the problem of urban mobility is carried out through the development, testing, fine-tuning of a variety of aircraft models.
