An attempt to restore the legitimacy of the Lukashenko's regime. A brief review of Claudio Spescha's interview with René Fasel.
SRF (Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen) interviewed the ice hockey leader on January 12, 2021 after Alexander Lukashenko's meeting with René Fasel. (https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/umarmung-mit-lukaschenko-rene-fasel-es-ist-bloed-gelaufen-und-mir-auch-peinlich) (https: //by.tribuna. com / hockey / 1092880862-fazel-o-vizite-v-minsk-k-lukashenko-io-sovestnom-foto-poluchilos-nemn.html? utm_referrer = https% 3A% 2F% 2Fzen.yandex.com)
The interview is characterized by the energy and persistence of a journalist; this interview is a good journalistic work.
René Fasel: "Lukashenko himself said that he wants to change the constitution, that he is ready to hold new elections." 'Who has already achieved something in Belarus with sanctions and boycotts? Nobody. " [unofficial translation]
First, Lukashenko's Belarus is now in an economic and historical dead end. In a short time, the external debt of Belarus approached $ 20 billion. Belarus of Lukashenko is unable to repay this debt.
Secondly, a democratic, modern Belarus has a historical chance - thanks to the support of the world, the United States, Europe, France - to peacefully leave the dictatorship and to return to the space of the Western World (a significant, and possibly most of Belarus was part of the Western world in 20 e - 30s of the 20th century. The territories of modern Belarus for centuries were part of the European state - the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Rzeczpospolita)). The conditions of return are not particularly honorable, but quite tolerant and worthy. Other, more favorable, prospects are not foreseen.
What is important now for the Lukashenko regime?
After the presidential elections in August 2020, Lukashenko's regime suddenly (for itself and for everyone) lost legitimacy. The loss of legitimacy entails difficulties for new foreign borrowings.
The main task of the Lukashenko's regime now is the maximum restoration of legitimacy (pseudo-legitimacy). For this restoration, a constitutional fiction is used - the All Belarusian People's Assembly which is formed in not a democratic way.
This All Belarusian People's Assembly should gloss over [to shadow] the effect the delegitimizing effect of the August 2020 elections. Further, perhaps, with a "new mood" will follow a pseudo-referendum on the Constitution (with the retention of personnel in the election commissions, who are counting votes).
The final task is to restore the legitimacy of the Lukashenko's regime to the extent possible level. With the restored legitimacy, it will be easier to take out new loans, and it will be easier to maintain the regime with borrowed money.
The Ice Hockey World Championship and the signs of respect from René Fasel are added to the 'All-Belarusian Assembly' and to the 'referendum' as methods of restoring pseudo-legitimacy.
After the final partition of the Rzeczpospolita in 1795, Poland - by common efforts - at the beginning of the 20th century returned to the status of a sovereign state and became part of the Western World.
There is no doubt that sooner or later Belarus will also return to the Western World.
The question is whether Belarus is using the opportunities that opened up after the August 2020 presidential elections.
The question is not only whether to achieve or not to achieve something with the help of sanctions and boycotts.
The question is to not support the dictatorship, so as not to complicate the return of Belarus to the Western World, so as not to deprive the inhabitants of Belarus of the opportunities that opened up thanks to the elections in August 2020.
As for the support of Belarusian sports, then, probably, international sports organizations have enough opportunities to separate Belarusian sports and Belarusian athletes from the Lukashenko's regime, to support Belarusian sports in every possible way without a supporting of Lukashenko's regime.
