Leonid Bortkevich - a singer and a respected person. The note.
The name of Leonid Bortkevich (May 25, 1949 - April 13, 2021, Minsk) is inextricably linked with the name of Vladimir Mulyavin and the Pesnyary ensemble.
However, there is an element of paradox in this. Vladimir Mulyavin was not a native of Belarus. Mulyavin was born in Sverdlovsk. He worked as an musician at the Tyumen Regional Concert Organization and at Variety Bureau of Tomsk, in regional concert organizations of Kemerovo, of Chita , of Petrozavodsk, of Orenburg ...
To understand the creative fate of Leonid Bortkevich, let's add two more names to the name of Vladimir Mulyavin: Peter Masherov and Ivan Shamyakin.
With these two names, the emergence and the creative history of the Pesnyary ensemble, established in 1969, becomes more understandable.
Peter Masherov - the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Belarus from 1965 to 1980. (A less significant, but nevertheless the influential figure was the prose writer, playwright, screenwriter, editor Ivan Shamyakin - Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR from 1971 to 1985).
And together with Peter Masherov and Ivan Shamyakin, let us recall Western Belarus and the participation of Western Belarus into the Second Rzeczpospolita from about 1921 to 1939. In the 1969, the Republic of Belarus within the USSR is among the highest in terms of cultural level, is among the most European.
A reminder of Western Belarus, of Peter Masherov and of Ivan Shamyakin makes it possible to understand how a person who has no relation (by origin) to Belarus - Vladimir Mulyavin - was able to organize the Pesnyary ensemble, and how the Pesnyary ensemble was able to gain the world fame.
In a strange way, the fate of Leonid Bortkevich was in a sense synchronized with the fate of Peter Masherov.
Peter Masherov (1918-1980) was born into a poor peasant family of Mashero Miron Vasilyevich (father) and Lyakhovskaya Darya Petrovna (mother). Peter Masherov, according to legend, was a descendant of a soldier of the Napoleonic army - the Frenchman Macheraut, who remained after the retreat in the Senne district in 1812 and converted to Orthodoxy, then he married a local peasant woman.
In 1980, Peter Masherov completed his earthly journey in a car accident.
Around the same period, serious changes began in the activities of the Pesnyary ensemble and in the fate of Leonid Bortkevich. Bortkevich entered GITIS (Russian Institute of Theatre Arts) in 1980, left the Pesnyary ensemble.
In 1982, Leonid Brezhnev, a native of Ukraine (a some territories of this USSR republic was also in the past the part of the Rzeczpospolita), also passed away. Brezhnev was able to joke. 'Leonid Ilyich cheerfully told that his father considered those who create new means of destroying people to be the main villains. And his father said: we ought to take these villains to a big mountain so that everyone can see them, and then to hang them.
- Now I myself am engaged in this black business, like you, and also with a good purpose, - said Brezhnev." (L. M. Mlechin "Brezhnev").
The reputation and fame of the Pesnyary ensemble (and its members) reached such a level by 1980 that Leonid Bortkevich was - until 2021 - one of the famous singers, one of the respected persons, - even after leaving this ensemble in 1980.
