The multifunctional Internet platform stops the news aggregation. Why? My thoughts.
About two years ago, I changed 'my location in Yandex' from Rostov-on-Don to Minsk (the capital of Belarus).
After changing the location, I was reading the news that could be of interest to a resident of Minsk. In addition, my personal interests were taken into account in the news, interests, which were closely monitored by the Internet platform. What do I read, what interests me?
I was reading the proposed materials and commented on them. I assume that the materials (and my comments on them) were of interest to a certain circle of readers.
From the recently read (and commented) materials, I can recall such things as:
The story of a resident of Great Britain about the life in her house of two women from Ukraine; she devoted a great deal of her time and her energy (and her money) to them; it was mentioned that she drove them in her car to a Polish supermarket - because of their eating habits.
An extensive interview with a Belarusian (former) entrepreneur, truck driver, about his modern life in Poland and in Europe - after leaving Belarus to work.
I will not now recall and list earlier materials and comments.
I was feeling some reaction to the 'change in my location'.
There were irritated, and even threatening, "reviews".
But most of all, my attention was drawn to the 'sudden' (for me) change of location from Minsk to Makhachkala.
Why Makhachkala? What prompted to choose Makhachkala? Of course, I don't know this...
If my interest in the news of the economy and culture - as a "Minsk resident" - irritated, then it was natural to expect some kind of reaction ...
What was to be done?
To disable the function of choosing a location for users - so that the user cannot select a city - Minsk, Rostov-on-Don, Moscow, etc.?
This is a thankless task, fraught with negative consequences.
Weather forecasts and other functions are associated with the dislocation. Users will feel surprise, and complaints will begin.
To change the principles of news aggregation - to exclude the consideration of user interests?
This would violate the basic principles: studying user activity, generalizing and using the results. What then remains - the statistics of news mentions on the Internet?
Maybe it's easier to opt out of the news aggregation feature?
How will the user search for news of interest to him? This process can be studied and generalized...
Naturally, I do not pretend to have indisputable answers. These are just my thoughts.
But the change of location from Minsk to Makhachkala and 'disconnection from the Internet' - such situations took place. (About slowing down the speed of Internet access, about tricks with counters of visits (of readings [my works]) - to mention these little things?).
